Hey Reader Happy May! I hope you had a restful weekend, because this month it’s time to bloom. I can’t wait for the May flowers. With the year coming to an end as you prep for step up ceremonies, graduations, and other end of year celebrations, don’t forget to take a moment individually and with your team to reflect on the school year. In April, our affirmation was: “I am preparing with purpose and setting clear intentions, guiding my school towards a successful end to the school year.” What intentions did you set for April? What purposeful actions did you take to ensure a successful end of the school year? If you are new here, it’s important to know that I am an advocate for reflective leadership, meaning encouraging leaders to take time to reflect on their leadership, communication, priorities, goals, and so much more. In my work with leaders, many always say, “I don’t have time, or I wish I had more time.” 30 minutes a week to reflect can save you hours of working really early or really late, and increase time with your loved ones, time with yourself, and releasing the overwhelm. Here’s my Mindful Brain Dump Strategy that I use weekly to organize my priorities for the upcoming week. It only takes 30 minutes. Affirmation for the month of May - “I celebrate the achievements of every student and staff member, recognizing their persistence and hard work.” Reader, we are now in the home stretch. Depending on where you are in the country your school year can be coming to an end within a few weeks. Just like reflecting is an important practice for leaders, it is equally important for staff. To stay in alignment with this month’s affirmation, ask your staff to reflect on these questions:
Asking these questions will allow teachers to reflect on the positive during a time of year that’s usually so draining. Everyone is tired and counting down the Mondays until summer break. Shifting the focus to something positive will also shift the energy. My May calendar is open for leadership coaching and summer planning. Schedule a call to learn more about how I can support you on your leadership journey.

Hey Reader, I hope your spring is going well — I know this time of year can feel like a sprint and a marathon at the same time. Whether you're closing out this school year or already planning for the next (especially if you're in New York preparing for the upcoming class size reductions in 2025-26 school year), there's a lot on your plate. One thing I’ve been stressing with leaders lately: no matter how much is happening, alignment to your instructional vision is everything. Over the past few...
Hey Reader, I'm popping into your inbox to check in—January is quickly coming to an end, but there’s still plenty of time to reflect, readjust, and reset. Today is a day of remembrance as we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., it’s a moment to reflect on his dream of equity and progress. This is also an opportunity to align our efforts with the shared goal of ensuring success and opportunity for every student. Since we’re approaching the midpoint of the school year, it’s the...
Hey Reader, Happy Monday and Happy Labor Day! I hope today you are all resting, especially if you are a principal in New York because students and staff return this week for the SY24-25 school year! Back in August I shared what school leaders need in order to have a strong start to the school year. Remember, to have a strong start you need to be proactive - the fires will come, you don’t have to wait and be reactive. Set up as many systems and structures needed to implement your instructional...
